About Vrancea

Vrancea is a county in south-eastern Romania, at the Carpathian Bend, with its seat at Focșani. The origin of the name is disputed: possibly from the Slavic “vran” (“black / raven”), or from the Vrâncioaia of folk chronicle. Romania has 41 counties and Vrancea is one of them. Its relief is a mixed one: the Vrancea Mountains in the west, sub-Carpathian hills in the centre, the Siret plain in the east and the south.
